Kenan began creating a series of transfer rubbings in January, 2009. In this process, he begins by taking his own photographs, or selecting public domain images, and then distilling them by filtering out the color and much of the “bulk.” He then prints these images onto clear plastic and then rubs the backside to transfer them onto paper. The finished works can contain a singular image, or they may be more complex, involving the overlaying successive rubbing images or text.
Most of the rubbings are created as unique works, while others are done as small editions of five to twenty pieces, plus one or two artist's proofs. They are created on various papers, and each is hand-signed (edition pieces are signed and numbered).
